Complete Disarray!!!

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Just like the great Senator from New York, this website was in a complete state of disarray! Unlike the great senator, I’m able to right my course. Yeah, if you can’t tell, I’m an Obama fan. I just don’t quite fit into Hillary’s “racist” demographic.

Anyways, This is really a short entry here, but I wanted to say that the dream that is JaysonSchultz.com is still very much alive. Lately other things called World of Warcraft have been slightly consuming my time. :-) So expect new and great things coming out of this site! As the former American Idol contestent put it, expect to have your “sock blown off”. On that note, Go David Cook!!!

Wednesday Musings

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

Wednesday MusingsSo a couple of things caught my attention today that I wanted to share. The first of which is that my love affair with Google continues. There’s news today that from some documentation found on Google Docs, Google appears to be getting ready to launch “Google Presently”, a web based presentation application aimed to compete with Microsoft Powerpoint. At this point, Google’s office suite would be nearly complete! As a matter of fact just today, I ran into a problem with my install of Excel. That’s when I realized that I sitll had Google Docs to fall back on. For the limited operation that I was trying to do, I had all the tools there at my finger tips. With the introduction of “Presently”, this is just one more tool. Heck if I were a student now, I might even shun all MS Office products and use Google Apps!

On another note, just months after the whole Dell battery fiasco, it looks like there’s a bit of nasty press swirling around the computer giant again. It looks like a grounding problem on some Dell laptops could cause a nasty shock of between 19 and 139 Volts! Now before everyone panics, lets keep in mind that what really matters is current (I = V/R). So while 139 volts likely won’t kill you, let’s just say that this wouldn’t be an expericne you would want to repeat. From what I can tell, affected laptops are Dell 9400/e1705/m1710/m90.

And one final musing for the night. An esteemed New York State Senator is trying to impose a fine for using portable electronic devices while walking. His position cites three recent cases where people have been killed because they weren’t paying attention and were too focused on their electronic devices. Let me tell you something. It is certainly unfortunate that this happened to these individuals, but I’m thinking this is one battleground that the government needs to stay out of. I mean seiously, why did they get hit in the first place? Was it because the vehicle operator was too busy chatting on the cell phone? Or were they distracted by a digital billboard?

And by the way, the migration to WordPress 2.1 didn’t quite go as seemlessly as I was hoping for. As a matter of fact, I’ve had to look for some new plugins to replace/upgrade what I used previously for several things including my news feeds, links page, and del.icio.us link roll in the sidebar. Oh well, such is life!

Casualty of War

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Casualty of WarIt appears that there has been a couple casuallies of war after the upgrade. Figures, something has to break… In the right pane, the Flickr integrator and the Del.icio.us integrator seem to be broken. I guess this now comes to the top of my todo list. Suffice it to say, I still have my resolve. Failure is not an option. (Boy this pic of Rummy was a lot more appropo than I originally thought!) Stay tuned…

And We’re Back!

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

And We’re BackWow this has been an incredibly long hiatus. What can I say, life get’s busy! Between planning for a wedding, acting as “subject matter expert” in an enterprise wide secure messaging project at work, and still trying to keep all the other day to day wheels on, there just simply isn’t enough time. But that’s not so say that I have all the time in the world now either though. As a matter of fact, all these are still in progress! No actually my return was sparked by hearing that WordPress 2.1 has been released. Yes, this site is now running 2.1. Didn’t notice a change over did you? That’s because 2.1 comes with support for old plugins as well as all the new stuff. So this was probably one of the simplest upgrades I think I ever did! As a matter of fact, I would hands down recommend this to anyone that is running a WordPress site that hasn’t yet upgraded. So what’s coming down the pipe for JaysonSchultz.com? A couple of things. Well maybe. First off, I’m growing a bit tired of this gray theme going on here. So I’m going to be in search of a new theme. I’m looking for something a bit simpler, crisper, and more modern. I’m looking for something similar to the default theme, but I want it to be slightly original. So if anyone has any great ideas, let me know. I’m also planning on doing some integration with YouTube. For those of you that are still stuck in the dark ages, YouTube is a video sharing site. The beauty of this is that it’s pretty much no holds barred and there is some great stuff out there. I want to be able to share this with you foks. Then, I think I’m going to take a bit of a direction change with JaysonSchultz.com. Before, this has been my little soapbox to talk about tech issues. But I want to expand that, I want to talk more about stuff happening in my life. For example, I bet you didn’t know that I’m getting married in June to the most amazing woman in the entire world (yes that happens to be Jody Gross). And actually that point segues to the other think that I wanted to do, create an empire. Since at the end of June I’ll be married to Jody Schultz, I want to create the Schultz Network (patent pending). You’ve seen this before with sites like enGadget, Slashdot, and IGN (you can tell I’m a geek since I just listed three sites that all have something to do with tech), now I want to bring global domination to JaysonSchultz.com. Of course there are several other things that I’ll have to content with as well that are taking a drain on my time, so I won’t guarantee that this will be a tomorrow project. But I just wanted to encourage everyone to keep checking back. Because my goal by the end of 2007 is a whole new JaysonSchutlz.com, still running WordPress of course!

Finally an Update!!!

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

Finally an Update!!!Yes, my loyal readers. It has been a looooonnnnggggg time since I actually had an update to this site. But that’s been for quite a number of reasons.

Well let’s start with my recent server migration. A few weeks ago, I received word that my site was going to be moving servers. And that everything was migrated, I just needed to do a functionallity check out. So, I updated my DNS entries and low and behold some of the apps on this site were broken. For the record I was using Skippy’s WordPress Backup to run automatic backups of my database to my email address and Handy Backup to backup the files off of this site. However, since the migration, I have been unable to run a full backup from WordPress backup and I still didnt’ figure out why FAlbum wasn’t working. I honestly believe that Valet Hosting didn’t migrate the rights correctly. But I have nothing to prove this. That said, Valet Hosting was too responsive to replies to their migration communication email and didn’t end up providing any assistance until I opened a trouble ticket last week. Of course at this time, it was too lat to do anything as my site was already deleted off the old server. Well at least, I can still backup the DB through CPanel. But the time that I’ve spent to get things back online has been ridiculous. I guess that’s what you get from a $10 per year hosting service. I’m not complaining… But I am!!!

So once I got this fixed, the next big thing happening in my life was that I GOT ENGAGED TO THE MOST PERFECT WOMAN IN THE WORLD! Ok, so I’m a bit biased. But Jody and I are now engaged after spending the 4th of July Weekend in Chicago. Ever since then, of course, I have been trying to plan things for the wedding and everything else in betweeen (read Engagement Party). This is almost a full time job in and of itself! But we are both VERY excited. “The Date” as it stands right now is July 7, 2007, or 7/7/7. At least I’ll be able to remember our anniversary! Who know’s since this is a play on the lucky number seven, maybe there will be a honeymoon in Vegas. Personally I’m hoping a bit more exotic than that, but who knows. I’m going to try and have pictures up as soon as I can copy them from Jody’s Facebook account.

As if that isnt’ enough, I’m trying to get a paper done for my GSEC Gold certification and get ready to take my INS tests in August (so State Farm will pay for my Master’s). So needless to say, I’ve been busy. But rest assured, I have not neglected my faithful readers! (all two of you…) If things work out, I should have more updates later tonight.

Welcome to JaysonSchultz.com

Friday, May 19th, 2006

Welcome to JaysonSchultz.comThanks for stopping by! If you are a return visitor, you will notice that the site looks a bit different than before. That’s because I’m in the middle of yet another site redesign. This time, I switched to WordPress. The easy of use and customizabillity offered by WordPress make Mambo (my previous CMS) pale in comparison. Hopefully I’ll have more out here relatively soon. Stay tuned for more.
